![]() ![]() ![]() Over the course of his long day, I was looking forward to catch my breath over the next a cigarette break as much as he was. As I read the chapter, I felt as if I WAS in his shoes. In the final chapters, "A Day in the Life" was written quite beautifully. The genesis of Anthony's passion and dedication to the profession - so it seemed, with many things in his life - came from love and spite. My favorite parts of the book were the beginning and the end. There is a paradox here in that while it was his ego and foolhardiness that made him the success that he was, he also had the humility to point out that those same traits probably meant he was never destined for greater things and that's okay. Maybe its the introspection offered by Anthony Bourdain in the final chapters: what it takes to be the professional that he was and what it would have taken to be a different (better?) chef. Funny enough, those dreams linger despite this book. ![]() ![]() Indeed, I was one of egotistic owners he talks about in his book at one point in my life. The box set was cheaper anyway!Īs someone who often has dreams of being a restaurateur or a chef, this book was a reality check. I completed Kitchen Confidential, started Medium Raw, but thought better of finishing the second book. ![]()
